The Food We Eat and Academic Performance

In responding to an edublog I found this interesting post by Bill Z. Tan. I figured I'd share the blog with you all. You can see my response to it if you would like. Bill focuses on how food affects academic performance and the research studies that have been done to prove this. It is very interesting and I hope you enjoy the reading!

Food Choices and Academic Performance

  1. I just realized that when we are supposed to respond to an "edublog" we should share our responses here, not on the actual blog. Well, I responded to the author of the actual blog. Here is what I said in response to his thoughts:

    Hello Bill,
Your nutritional blog is very interesting. Instead of the usual, “You need to eat breakfast in order to energize your brain”, you focused on general food types that can help in academic performance. Overall, I believe schools have been implementing programs into the curriculum to enhance student understanding of a healthy lifestyle. At the middle school I teach at, in Harrison, NY, we devote a full week called “Wellness Week” to educate students on eating healthy and exercising. Students attend different physical activities from relaxation yoga to different leisure activities, as well as food classes and healthy living choices. The students love this week and really try hard to establish a healthy routine.

It is very important that we reach out to parents with the most recent research studies. We can assume that students eat whatever is prepared for them for dinner. To tackle the obesity challenge, we must educate parents and guardians on the affects of food and provide resources for them to use. Some students only rely on school to serve them lunch. It is important we reach out to guardians so they can monitor what they make for meals.
